International Perspective (KIP) Field Study Course
The intent of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to
gain general knowledge of a country, as well as specific knowledge of a
business issue within that country. The course material, issues to be
investigated in the field study, and method of analysis will be developed by
students in the class under the guidance of the faculty advisor. Also,
students will be responsible for presenting relevant material at each class,
leading the class discussion, and for organizing in-country speakers,
events, and trip logistics. The course will culminate in a trip of
approximately 10 days duration for field research in the designated country,
accompanied by the faculty advisor who will supervise the research.
Course Requirements
- Class Attendance
- Class Participation--Preparing and presenting class material, leading
class discussion
- Participation on one of the following committees: Logistics, Speakers,
Curriculum/Marketing
- Team Research Project--Students work in teams to analyze and research
a specific topic relative to the country. Each group will be required to
submit a short project outline stating the issue to be studied and the
research methodolgy to be employed. Halfway through the course, each group
will submit a progress report giving the findings and progress of
preliminary research of the chosen study topic. During the trip students
will perform field research on their issue, and, after the trip, students
will give a presentation of their research findings to the Kelley student
body and submit a written report.Specific issues to be covered regarding
the chosen country will be determined by student leaders of each class, in
conjunction with their faculty advisor.The Curriculum leader will oversee
the development of a case and readings packet containing readings for the
course. Ongoing updates will be identified and provided by the
Curriculum/Marketing Committee.Class and Trip Participation
