The beginning

The modern era
An attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December of of 1941 by Japan was a trigger for America ‘s entry into the Second World War. Hawaii served as a major base of operations in the Pacific and helped America win the War of the Pacific. The citizens of Hawaii voted to become a state in 1958.
President Dwight Eisenhower signed a bill in March 1959, in which he took statehood into account. Hawaii formally became the 50th state on August 21, 1959. Hawaii, which had enjoyed economic and population growth since the end of World War II, suffered the damage in the 1990s. Hawaii’s tourism economy was hit by the tragic events of September 11, 2001, but today it has fully recovered.

Maui (Hawaiian Islands)
Maui is an island in the Hawaiian Islands archipelago.
Along with the islands of Lanai, Kahoolawe and Molokai, it is part of the county of Maui, within the state of Hawaii (United States).
It is the second largest island in the archipelago, with a total area of 1880 km 2.
Its population of 117,644 residents (in 2000) makes it the third most populated island.
Name
The island is named after the legendary demigod Maui. According to tradition, this hero, known in different parts of Polynesia, created the islands by fishing them from the bottom of the sea with a magic hook, which the residents of these places identify with the constellation of Scorpio.
